Memoir Writing

The Memoir Writing class in the Sherman Green Cleaners, where we discuss & share our dreams, & spiritual enlightenment, plus enjoy tea leaf readings, tea tastings, & herbal wisdoms, has been a fine success. Our circle grows evermore radiant!

Within the realms of memoir writing we have read various selected memoirs, while doing our own writing exploring literary devices & voices in a series of essays & short stories as we reach back through time to capture our family folklore, adventures, & document valuable life passages. From poetry to ghost writing, and channeling to spirit writing - we experiment through diverse forms of lively writing... Creativity rules!

We share our latest accomplishments over herbal tea & sympathy as the process stretches us all into new dimensions. Writing grows ever more eclectic!

Native Plants & Native Healing

As a camera/naturalist I have enjoyed photographing native plants in various natural habitats across North America. I have travelled many diverse regions & camped on many different American Indian reservations from the Pacific to the Atlantic Coasts while photographing native plants & people, & sketching. My career as an ethnobotanist has taken me back along much of the old Lewis & Clark Trail in the West, and to each of the 19 Pueblos across New Mexico & into Arizona. I have travelled from the eastern Cherokee and Seminole areas to their Oklahoma centers, plus worked extensively across Oklahoma, & other areas throughout Indian Country. Much of my early expertise has centered on the richness of the botanical environments in the Northeast.

Creative Inspirations ...

I have written more than 25 books during the past 40+ years and most all of them are still in print. Writing is a passion as well as my job and career. My first book back in 1977 was hailed as "the most intelligent and brilliantly researched book on the foods of the American Indian." Today, Native Harvests: American Indian Wild Foods and Recipes, (Dover, NY: 2005) has gone through subsequent updates and reprints to serve as a classic in this field.
Poetry is also one of my passions. I am completing my fourth book of poetry, which will be published by fall 2007. I use a creative range of poetry to open doors for my writing students enabling them to connect deeply with their own writer's voice & artistic range of expression. Writing is great therapy.
